Just before Thanksgiving, Marlise Munoz collapsed and was pronounced brain dead… Despite her husband and family knowing her wish not to be kept alive by machine, she is being kept on life support, again, against her wishes as well as against her families wishes (her family, of course, support HER choice because that’s what respect and love is) strictly because she is 14 weeks pregnant. Marlise was pronounced brain dead after a collapse that led her to the hospital.
Her husband, Erick, knew his wife didn’t want to be kept alive via machine. It should be noted both paramedics on scene told him that they understood Marlise’s wishes; that they, too, both would not want to be kept alive by a machine if they were in that situation.
The hospital told her family, however, they would be breaking Texas law if they took a pregnant woman off life support. This is the response to any woman in her situation; even if the woman has a living will stating she do not want to be kept alive by machine.
Before I post the link to the petition I plead with you to sign, I have to say I am holding back a massive speech of rage against anti’s- whom should never be called pro-life for part of being FOR life means you want people to have a good quality of life, you want every person to have the right over their own body.
That is not what Anti’s want, so the term pro-life is sickening and misleading… But as much as I want to rant about that, I won’t…on this post. I must note, however, the extreme upset I want to rant about regarding Anti’s I feel towards the Texas state government as well as the federal government- unless they do not step in and do something for this woman. If nothing is done for this woman and she is forced to give birth against her will, to “live” against her will, that is a control the government has that every single person, not just women, but every one should view as an extremely blatant attack on personal rights on so many levels.

Marlise Munoz collapsed at home and was pronounced brain dead after being rushed to the hospital. Marlise’s husband, Erick, knew what his wife would want him to do. Both paramedics, they had talked about how neither of them wanted to be kept alive on a machine should the worst happen.1
But Marlise’s decision not to be kept alive by a machine is being ignored because she was 14 weeks pregnant with her second child when she collapsed. The hospital told Erick and Marlise’s parents they’d be breaking the law because the state of Texas doesn’t allow hospitals to end life support to pregnant women—even if the woman has a living will with a directive to not be put on life support.2
The Munoz family deserves better than this—and it’s up to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to show them that the state of Texas respects their wishes and their privacy.
Sign our petition to tell Texas AG Greg Abbott to leave difficult, personal decisions in the hands of families and support the Munoz’s family’s decision to take Marlise off of life support, as she wanted.
